Standard First Aid Course

Adults (15+)

Standard first aid courses are available throughout the country and are run by the local St Andrew's Ambulance Corps Company. These courses are available to anyone who has an interest in learning first aid and are a prerequisite to joining the Corps and taking part in public duties.

Please note, this course is not acceptable for Health and Safety at work First Aid.

This course consists of 12 x 2 hours sessions, usually one evening per week.

The course covers:

  • Principles and Practice of First Aid
  • Disorders of Airway and Breathing
  • Wounds and Bleeding
  • Heart Disorders
  • Burns and Scalds
  • Fractures
  • Head Injuries
  • Stroke
  • Fits

Examination

The first aid course is assessed by continual assessment.

Certification

If successful, a Standard Certificate will be awarded. All standard first aid course certificates are valid for three years.
