Health & Safety at Work Course

There are a number of ways this course can be run, generally either of the following is used.

One Week Course

This course is held Monday to Friday, times vary between locations, usually 09.00 am till 17:00 pm each day

Day Release Course - 4 days

This course takes place one day per week over 4 weeks, times vary depending upon location, usually from 09:00 am till 17:00 pm each day

The course covers :

  • Resuscitation
  • Treatment and control of bleeding
  • Treatment of shock
  • Management of unconscious casualty
  • Contents of First Aid Boxes and their use
  • Purchasing of First Aid supplies
  • Transport of casualties
  • Recognition of illness
  • Treatment of injuries to bones, muscles and joints
  • Treatment of minor injuries
  • Treatment of burns and scalds
  • Eye irrigation
  • Poisons
  • Simple record keeping
  • Personal hygiene in treating wounds
  • Communication and delegation in emergency

Examination

All candidates are required to sit a practical and oral examination covering the material which they have learned throughout the course

Certification

On successful completion of the examination candidates are awarded an HSE Approved First Aid
 at Work Certificate which is valid for three years.
